Dead Snow

I have finally watched the movie Dead Snow.  What movie is this you ask? It is just your run of the mill Norwegian nazi zombie film.  Six people in their early 20s go out to a deserted cabin to have some fun in the snow.  All goes well with sledding, snow ball fights, tubing, hooking up in the outhouse when oh sh*t! there are nazi zombies out there that will rip your head in half and eat your innards!  Suddenly these young men and women are in a frozen swastika war zone.

Like all great horror films it follows the routine... Going to a deserted place where there are no cars or cell phone signal.  Everybody is there to get drunk and screw.  A creepy old man warns them about an evil in the area.  They realize just a little too late that the evil is very real. Suddenly these horny drunks are forced to defend themselves with whatever they can find (a random shotgun, knives, a chainsaw, etc...) and try and get back to their cars.

While Dead Snow does follow the usual horror film storyline it does deviate in some great ways.  When have you ever seen someone bite the zombie? Or how about hang from a cliff holding on to a zombies large intestine as rope? Speaking of which, the movie is extremely gory.  Director Tommy Wirkola does a great job of changing the pace and mood of the film, often going from horror to comedy in a matter of seconds.  The use of music is also great ranging from what I can only imagine is Norwegian punk and pop to classical.

In terms of a zombie horror film I give it 4.5 out of 5 stars.

A clip from the movie to go out on...

Pretty gory huh?
