Ten

or: My first real rock album.

Last week Pearl Jam released a completely remastered and remixed version of their first album Ten. Ten, was my first real rock and roll album that I ever purchased. I will admit that I was a bit late to getting to it (like three or four years) but I do remember secretly watching the video for Jeremy when it was first playing on MTV. At the time I was not allowed to watch MTV, and my mom would have been extra pissed if she saw me watching that video. She got mad at me one time when she caught me watching Boyz II Men "End of the Road." Back to my story though, before I really got into Ten I was listening to much softer stuff, like Boyz II Men (I still love that group, 4 Seasons of Loneliness, Water Runs Dry? Great songs).  Sorry, enough Boyz II Men.

My brother was the one who introduced me to Pearl Jam and their album Ten. It was the first time I ever really listened to anything that was some straight up rock.  I remember it kicking my ass when I first listened to it, and it still does today.  Ten has great guitar solos, crazy drumming and great singing.  Eddie Vedder has a voice that has many times been imitated (see Creed) but never duplicated (see Creed).  Not only can he sing but it is also what he sings about.  Ten was also one of the first album I ever got into that had anything to do with social issues.  Vedder tackled many different subjects; homelessness, teenage angst, psychiatric hospitals, murder, suicide, and depression.  Each song is truly a story on its own.  To go with the vocals Ten has some amazing guitar work.  Michael McCready is one of the greatest guitar players ever.  Just a little fun side not about him, when recording the song "Reach Down" with Chris Cornell, his headphone fell off and he continued to perform a 4 plus minute solo without being able to hear the backing track.  To hear some of the greatest guitar solos just listen to the songs Alive and Even Flow.  Another side note and my claim to fame, his mother was my middle school art teacher.

At some point in my life each of the songs on Ten has been on constant repeat for a couple of days.  I had not listened to Ten for a while until I got the remastered version.  I have been hooked again.  The remastered album sounds a lot different, there are many things that I did not hear in the old version.  The reverb has been taken way down and the guitars are even more up front.  It is a different sound for sure, but one that I am enjoying and getting my ass kicked by again.

A quick note about a few of the songs...
This was one of the first songs that Pearl Jam ever wrote.  Vedder was given an instrumental version of this song when he was auditioning for the band.  He wrote lyrics that describe a fictionalized account of the time when he was told that the man he thought was his father was not actually his biological parent. I don't know how anyone could listen to this song and not think it is one of the greatest songs ever. Mike McCready's guitar solo was listed as one of the greatest guitar solos ever by the magazine Guitar World.

Black

Black is one of two slower songs on the album (Release being the other one). This song has one of the greatest lines ever.

"I know some day you'll have a beautiful life I know you'll be a star, in somebody else's sky but why why why cant it be me?"

The band refused to make a video for it or release it as a single because they felt it was too personal. Vedder personally called radio station managers to make sure the record label had not released the song as a single against his wishes. Some may think that is going a bit overboard but I think its kind of cool. Pearl Jam went on to never make a video for any of their songs again until their 1998 song Do the Evolution, which is one of the coolest videos ever.

So there are some of my thoughts about Ten.  I could write a lot more but I am tired now and I want to go to bed. Hey, that makes me think of another song.

Sorry, can't go out like that...

Something for the Ladies!...and Nick

Dhani Jones is a linebacker for the Cincinnati Bengals. He also has a show on the Travel Channel where he goes to different countries and tries out their sports. Here are a few clips.

Crazy German Kid

I'll be honest, it would be kind of funny to act like this at work.

There is a lot of info on this video, too bad the kid is acting and not really like this...

This video was made as a response to some German politicians attempting to restrict access to violent video games. He was trying to show how they view gamers. Very amusing and intelligent. Too bad most people missed the point.

"Journalists" from Focus TV (Germany) used this as an example of an internet addict, claiming the kid to have been secretly taped by his father and to be undergoing therapy in addiction clinic. Naturally, this was not what "Leopold" understood to have agreed on when he gave approval for airing it on TV.

I do like this version of it however...

After watching both of those I have a headache.

For The Kids

alaskan pipeline

n: the act of pooping in to a condom, freezing the rubber overnight, then inserting it in to ones anus. Invented at the University of Iowa by Brian and Andy S. in 2001.
Andy: "Hey Brian, wanna come give me an alaskan pipeline?" Brian: "You know I can't do that again. Dad will spank us!" Andy: "Aww shucks Brian, you know how much I love those." Brian: "I know Andy dear, I know."

Hot Richard

When a man and a woman are spooning and the woman farts on the man's dick, making it feel warm and cozy.
While spooning on the couch and waiting for ham to cook in my portable microwave, my wife gave me a hot richard.

hot carl

Mostly everyone is wrong, a 'hot carl' is the act of putting seran over the face and taking a dump on it. Anal to oral is called a 'rusty trombone', dumping on the chest is a 'Cleaveland steamer', and anal to tit fuckin is a chilli dog. If you have the squirts and can attain maximum heat and force a hole through the seran and onto the skin/mouth then you are awarded extra points, carl would be proud.
I bought some seran wrap today because I want to give Carrie a hot carl for her birthday.

Stefan loves this type of stuff.

Guilty Confession #2: Lady GaGa 'Just Dance'

A while ago I wrote my first guilty confession, I was really into the Chris Brown song 'Forever.' Well a lot has happened since then, Chris Brown has changed his name to Chris 'Bobby' Brown after beating the crap out of Rihanna. Seriously, how could you ever hit a woman? Now I know in the America legal system one is innocent until proven guilty but that motherf*cker is guilty. There is no way he will actually get the 4 year jail sentence but he should. How could you ever hit this?

This post is not about Chris 'Bobby' Brown however. I just wanted to say that 'Forever' is still a catchy song but it is now kind of hard to listen to it. I have since then moved on to a new song.

My new song is 'Just Dance' by Lady GaGa.

First off, Lady GaGa is a totally ridiculous name. At the same time if my name was Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta I would also think about shortening it to something a bit catchier. A bit of history about Lady GaGa. I tell a little history because it is part of the reason that I don't feel too guilty about liking her song. She started out writing songs for other artists (Fergie, Britney Spears and New Kids on The Block for example) and while doing test vocals was discovered to have a good voice as well. She was then encouraged to become a performer herself by Akon (I really dislike Akon). So anyways, Akon signed her to his label and since then she has been a solo act. So what makes me like her a bit more is that she actually writes her own stuff. Ok, I am not giving her that much credit but it makes me feel a little bit better about liking this song. So now to the actual song. I would put the video up but for some reason lots of record labels won't let you embedded their artist's music videos from YouTube. Why would you not let people share the music videos? It is free publicity! Oh well, so here is the link to Lady GaGa 'Just Dance.'

I am not really a big fan of the video but it would be cool to go to a party like that sometime. Although I think that I would eventually get really annoyed with all of those hipsters. I do want that chief headdress, that thing is sweet. I also don't know why she keeps covering one eye like she is an 80's supermodel. Speaking of 80's she certainly has lots of influences in this song. This song makes me think of Gwen Stefani, David Bowie, Queen, and Madonna. The song also has a really good message.

With Digital Spy, Lady Gaga explained what "Just Dance" was about:
“ The whole song's about being totally wasted at a party. It's about all the things that happen when you're out and you totally lose your head. In that situation we never really want to stop the party so we just dance through it. You're thinking, 'Oh fuck I wanna go home!' but your friends are like, 'Don't go home you loser, have another beer', so you do, you dance and then you're fine."

I think that is a good thing to pass on to kids. When it is a Friday night and your at the bar getting tired, just drink some more and you will be fine. Don't be a pussy. There is no denying that this song is catchy. I don't even really like to dance but it makes me want to move my feet a little bit.

This song also fits in perfectly with the current economic situation. It is all about the confusion and attitude, "I don't know what the hell is going on. How did my shirt end up inside out (whew, at least I haven't lost that yet)? F*ck it. I'm just gonna dance." I highly suggest next time you hear this song you don't fight it; you give in to it. I may be broke, I can't pay rent, I'll probably be unemployed soon (if not already), I have no friends (wait, that's just me)...f*ck it, just dance!

P.S. She has some crazy style going on, very Bowie -esque.

G.I. Joe PSA

I'm sorry that there are so many of these but these are hilarious, every single one of them. When they used to air the cartoon, G.I. Joe, they would end each episode with a PSA. These are some of the PSAs but they have obviously been editing and re-dubbed. These are some of the most random things ever.

OK, that is a lot of them...I like them all but this is a great really short one.
