Confederations Cup Update

Well as usual with my soccer predictions. I am wrong. This time, however, I have no problems with being wrong as USA BEAT SPAIN!!! U-S-A! U-S-A!

But how did we get here?

Here is the quick and dirty. USA got blown out by Italy 3-1. We then got blown out by Brazil 3-0. For our final game we had to beat Egypt by 3 and Brazil had to beat Italy by 3 (goal differential stuff, it doesn't really matter). Both games were played at the same time and amazingly the impossible happened. Italy even scored an own goal to lose 3-0 and USA finally showed up to a game and won 3-0. This left team USA playing against the number one ranked in the world team, Spain. Spain had not lost in their last 35 matches, had a 15 game winning streak, and had not allowed a goal since April 1st. Spain had easily cruised past South Africa, New Zealand (Fernando Torres had a hat trick in the first 16 minutes), and Iraq. I'm sure Spain thought they were going to have another easy game. This video pretty much sums up what happened.

So what happens now?

Tomorrow (or by the time you read this, today) South Africa plays Brazil. South Africa tied Iraq, beat New Zealand and then lost to Spain. Brazil on the other hand scored at least 3 goals in their last three wins as they cruised through the group stage. I am pretty confident that Brazil is going to win leaving a final of Brazil v USA. The game is on Sunday and should be a good one. I really will be surprised though if USA can pull out another win. A little side note, this is the first time in the history of the USA soccer team that they have made it to the final of any FIFA tournament. Big Deal.

U-S-A! U-S-A!
